Hypnosis and Self-Hypnosis - Tools For Positive Change

weight loss hypnosis

Hypnosis and self-hypnosis are tools for change that have been in use for over a hundred years. Using them to tap into the subconscious mind can result in amazing changes in many aspects of a person's life. And the use of hypnosis makes these changes occur quicker and easier.

While the terms hypnosis and self-hypnosis are sometimes used interchangeably, I see them as two slightly different areas.

Hypnosis to me refers to the act of being hypnotized by a second person, such as a hypnotherapist or professional hypnotist. This type of hypnosis
is used in many ways, such as an anesthetic for surgery, as a painkiller, as psychological therapy, to enhance sports performance, treatment of disease, and many other subjects too numerous to mention.

I believe self-hypnosis refers to the act of a person basically hypnotizing himself, sometimes called autosuggestion. Dieting, stopping smoking, reducing stress, breaking bad habits, and a bunch of other benefits are possible. The two methods obviously have overlapping uses and subjects that can be treated.

My first memorable use of self-hypnosis was in 1982 when I used a hypnosis tape to quit smoking cigarettes. I had tried to quit several times before unsuccessfully, and managed to only go a day or two before
getting withdrawal symptoms and resuming smoking. I saw a cassette tape in a book store from a company called Potentials Unlimited and decided to give it a try.

The tape was listened to twice a day for about three weeks, leading up to a certain date that I had picked to be the day I quit smoking. I found myself voluntarily tapering off of cigarettes as the day got closer. I did actually quit on my assigned day but had a relapse the next day at a Halloween party. The day after the party I quit again and haven't had the desire for a single puff of a cigarette in 26 years.

I have also been investigating a company call Neuro-Vision. They use a patented technology of the same name which is a joining of hypnosis and neuro-linguistic programming. While this company specializes in the weight loss and stop smoking areas, they also have a wide variety of other programs as well.

As mentioned, Neuro-vision uses both hypnosis and NLP. Their technology is available in both audio and video form. CDs are used for the strictly audio programs, while DVDs are used for the video/audio method. This technology looks very promising and, according to the many testimonials on their website, is very effective.
