Mental Health

The World Health Organization defines mental health as "a state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community.” This concise statement covers a lot of ground.

While a small percentage of the general population will always have treatable mental illnesses, the rest of us have to take care of our mental well-being as well. Exercize and proper diet can have a very noticable effect on our mental well-being.

The stresses of modern living and coping with the ever-changing scenarios of our lives can be challenging to deal with at times. Luckily, there are many ways to overcome these mental challenges and live a happy, productive, fulfilling life.

Of course if a person is mentally ill, they should receive a doctor's care of the proper type. But, for the average person, things such as meditation, hypnosis, yoga, support groups, or even religion can help maintain control and ease the way.

Mental Health America (formerly known as the National Mental Health Association) is the country’s leading nonprofit dedicated to helping ALL people live mentally healthier lives. They offer a website full of help and information on many aspects of mental health and wellness.
