Chronic depression is also called dysthymic disorder or Dysthymia. This disease can be serious, although not as serious as attacks with major depression. Someone you know may have Chronic Depression and you would not know it.

This is due to the fact that the damages caused by this illness do not appear on the outside of the body but on the inside. The effects are mental and physical.

Chronic Depression will not cause you to cough, sneeze or run a fever. A rash won't break out on your body. However, a victim of this illness may feel helplessness, worthlessness and hopelessness.

Those affected may experience problems with sleep and insomnia. The sufferer might be consumed by constant feelings of sadness and emptiness. Death and suicide are considerations that a patient will have.

Usually people with chronic depression do a good job of hiding these signs. When mental illness exists you have to look very closely for signs and symptoms. They're not always clear.

This disease has no boundaries. As with any disease early detection is beneficial to treatment. However, mental depression is complicated and not easy to detect. The eating habits may change. It becomes a struggle to interact with others. Feelings of hopelessness may arise, and despair results. Emotional and physical state will show signs of decay. People afflicted with mental depression may not notice the signs, so others have to notice the signs for them.

Depression is caused by a variety of possibilities. Stress can be a key. Many things cause stress. Stress comes from relationships and even the struggle to make ends meet. Stress might come from the death of a loved one.

In many cases it is believed that mental depression can be passed on genetically. There are many possible causes of depression. But there are many treatments too. Talk therapy is a good treatment. Many medications and herbs also help. If treated, mental depression can be cured.
